UNP Gen. Sec. assures significant changes in the party soon

5.jpgSeveral significant changes in the United National Party (UNP) would come into effect within the next two or three weeks, party General Secretary and MP Tissa Attanayake disclosed at a media briefing in Kandy on Saturday (30) afternoon. Attanayake said decision would be taken in respect of the appointment of the deputy leader of the party and the return of the party members who left or expelled to the party’s fold. A committee chaired by the former Minister Karunasena Kodituwakku had been appointed to study expulsions, suspensions and those willing to return to the fold and submit a report, the UNP General Secretary said,

adding that those measures had been taken with the consent of the party and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe. He said the party’s unity was of paramount importance at this juncture as the country needed a stronger UNP as never before. Central Provincial Council Member (UNP) Padmalal de Alwis was associated with the General Secretary at the briefing.
